About the company
PPG Industries is a global supplier of paints, coatings, chemicals and glass. With more than one million products, PPG operates in over 70 countries. Continuous innovation and sustainable solutions contribute to the position of PPG as a market leader. In order to maintain this position, the central coordination of the product portfolio is crucial. The goal here is to make information accessible to various R&D departments worldwide. This promotes cooperation and results in efficient and innovative product development.
“More efficient collaboration through centralized information.”
PPG’s product is the result of several acquisitions. R&D departments worldwide were managing the product locally, each in its own way. With paint and complex chemical composition as entities, this was not the basis for a user-friendly database. Centralizing the various local product databases was essential. The goal became managing information in a simple enough manner that even the marketing department, without chemical background, is able to seamlessly collaborate with the R&D department.
The challenge was to bring the different locations and departments together. The pooling of resources enables a reduction in the cost of product development. Youwe’s technique makes accessible information without barriers possible.
“Youwe has built a smart Product Information Management environment. All products are stored centrally and all users have access to one single product data.”
PPG now has insight into its entire global product portfolio. This allows them to save time and money in communication between sites. But more importantly, they avoid that locations engage in developing products that are already present in their product portfolio.
Besides that the communication barrier between R&D and Marketing has been broken, PPG is able now to extract more synergies from the knowledge of its global resources.
